Growing compact SUV segment!

India is currently witnessing a growing demand for compact SUV's. Major car manufacturers like Ford and Renault has already has their products in this segment and other major manufacturers are also having their product in their pipeline.

Total market of compact SUV in India comes to around 11000 units per month which is currently dominated by Ford Ecosport with around 4400 units per month.

Compact SUV segment in India was started by Premier Rio which is altogether a good package, but lacks brand image and dealer network. Then came the Renault Duster which swept the major volume of this segment. Both Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport was showcased together at the International AutoExpo 2012 at New Delhi, but Duster was launched within few months and Ecosport was launched only after one year. The delay of Ecosport accelerared the sale of Duster which has an SUV feel along with better fuel efficiency compared to normal SUV's.

Ford launched Ecosport a few months ago and received more than 30,000 bookings within few days. Now Ford has paused taking bookings for some variant of this model.

Nissan is also coming up with their compact SUV Terrano which was unveiled recently and will be available in showrooms this October. Terrano is basically based on Renault Duster.

Honda has come up with an all new compact SUV based on the new Honda Jazz platform which is expected to be powered by Honda's new 1.5 Litre diesel engine that does duty in Amaze saloon.

Hyundai has also reveled their plan for compact SUV which will be built on a new unique platform tailor made for India.

Volkswagen have their compact SUV Taigun for India and other manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Toyota etc are preparing their compact SUV's for Indian market. Probably their is a chance for all these manufacturers to showcase their models at the upcoming AutoExpo 2014 at New Delhi.

Compact SUV's are gaining demand due to their exciting fuel efficiency like small cars, we can park them like any small cars, but at the same time maintaining an SUV look.
