The compact SUV battle has become tougher in India with the unveiling of Nissan Terrano today. Terrano will be competing against Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport and Premier Rio. Terrano is a compact SUV which is born out of Renault-Nissan alliance.
Terrano is not just a rebadged Renault Duster, it is a redesigned Duster. According to Nissan spokesmen, almost every body panel of Terrano is new except for the roof and rear quarter panel. It comes with a grille which we can find out in other Nissan SUV’s like Pathfinder and X-Trail.
Bonnet is completely redesigned and has two lines that flow into the grille. The headlamps are slim and angular which blends well into the grille. The bumper is redesigned for better styling and positioning of fog lamps. The air dam is just similar to that of Duster. Aesthetical change comes to the tailgate and tail lights also.
Interiors are refreshed and come with many changes like rectangular air vents that replaces the central circular ones that was present in Duster and above them, there is a new closed storage unit. The upholstery is a light shade of beige and comes with wood trims on the inner door handles. Space inside the Terrano is almost similar to that of Duster.
Mechanically Terrano is same as that of Duster and will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol engine is a 1.6 Litre that makes 104PS power and 145Nm of torque, while the diesel engine is a 1.5 Litre with two tunings. While one comes with a power output of 85PS and torque of 200Nm, the other comes with a power output of 110PS and 248Nm.
During the unveiling event, Kenichiro Yomura, president, Nissan India operations, said, “The Terrano marks our entry into the compact SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market today. It follows the same design language as our Pathfinder and Patrol SUVs and makes a strong statement, which is a key differentiator in this segment. We are confident that the Terrano SUV will appeal both the existing real SUV lovers and consumers looking to graduate to SUV.”
Nissan will price the car under INR 10 Lakh price tag which will be a bit higher than its Renault counterpart. Nissan will start pre-sales bookings from September 1st and the Terrano will go on sale from October.
