Review: Tata Safari Storme

Safari was launched by Tata Motors in 1998, which was India’s very first 4x4 SUV. Since then Safari was conquering terrains. It overcame many challenges and got upgraded many times to stand along the competition. This beast is refined with new upgradation which came in the form of Safari Storme with the structure remaining the same, but changed a lot, keeping its legacy.

Safari Storme comes with 2.2 Litre (2179cc) diesel engine with maximum power output of 140PS @ 4000rpm and is fine tuned to deliver a maximum torque of 320Nm @ 1700-2700rpm.

Safari Storme is made on the State-of-the-art Hydroform frame chassis that is lighter and stronger, which is basically a ladder frame construction. It has a ground clearance of 200mm. Safari Storme has advanced rack and pinion precision steering, offering a 5.4 meter turning radius. It comes with disc brakes at all four wheels with ABS and EBD for sharper, more precise braking whether on-road or off-road. It has dual SRS airbags.

Inside the Safari Storme comes with premium finishing and spacious interiors similar to that of Tata Aria along with some wooden finish panelling. It has dual AC with manual electric control and roof mounted separate blower for rear passengers. It has a total of 10 air vents that keep the entire cars temperature in perfect control. Safari Storme improved the passenger comfort level. Even while driving the front seats will keep you comfortable.

Exterior of Safari Storme comes with a new chrome plated mirrors with indicators, chrome finished front grills between stylish projector headlamps which feels more contemporary, sporty aerodynamic spoilers that add to the aesthetic of the car and roof rails. Anew wider running board, body cladding, grab type door handles which adds some upmarket feel to this beast. Alloy wheel has been restyled. At rear it comes with new twin exhausts to give a sporty feel. But the rear wheel hinged at the back has now been moved to a space under the boot, which lacks some type of Safari feel.

Safari Storme comes in three colours of sardinia red, pearl white and urban bronze. It is priced at INR 10.29 Lakhs (Ex-showroom New Delhi).
