Scania India, the subsidiary of the Swedish comercial vehicle maker, launched Metrolink bus entering in the Indian luxury bus market currently dominated by Swedish counterpart itself - Volvo. The coach is available with 45, 49 & 53 seating capacities. Scania has been in the global bus market since 1911.
The 45 seat model is a 12 metre 4x2 model which comes with a 9 litre 310hp Euro 3 engine. The next model with 49 seat model is a 13.7 metre 6x2 model with a larger 13litre 360hp Euro 3 engine. The additional axle at rear is hydraulically steered for easy driving. The 53 seater is a 14.5-metre high-capacity 6x2 model featuring 53 semi-sleeper seats which has the Scania 13-litre 410 hp Euro 3 engine. All these models come with 2.6m width, 3.7m height and Scania Opticruise 8-speed automatic gearbox with a 465-litre fuel tank.
Scania has been represented in the Indian market since 2007 when a partnership was initiated with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for sales of trucks in the mining industry. In 2011, Scania established its own company in India in order to boost its presence in additional segments of the Indian commercial vehicle market. In late 2012, a range of trucks for heavy road haulage was launched by the company.
