New Delhi, March 13: The government will launch one million pieces of Rs 10 plastic notes in 5 cities on a trial basis, said Ministry of Finance in parliament. The five cities including Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, Shimla and Bhubhaneswar were slected based on various conditions like geographical locations and climatic conditions.
According to a written reply given by Minister of State for Finance, Namo Narain Meena to the Rajya Sabha, "It has been decided by the government and the RBI ( Reserve Bank of India) to introduce one billion pieces of Rs 10 notes in polymer/plastic on a field trial basis."
The primary objective of the introduction of the polymer notes is to increase life and also to fight against counterfeiting.
