Indore, May 17: A Court in Indore sentenced 10 years of jail for a man who put a ‘chastity lock’ for his wife even though the victim had drew back her statement during the trial. The court also imposed INR 1000 on the accused Sohanlal aged 38, a mechanic by profession, under sections 326 (causing grievous hurt) and section 498 (subjecting wife to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code.
Sohanlal had locked the private part of his wife over four years every time he left his home. She was forced to carry out a crude surgery by Sohanlal to put her lock. Sohanlal was suspicious about his wife’s character. This made him to act so cruelly to his wife.
Public Prosecutor Jyoti Tomar said to the court, “the woman suffered serious injuries in the process”
The cruel act came to light when the woman attempted for a suicide by consuming rat poison on July 16, 2012. It was the doctor who treated her found the lock and informed the police.
“She had found the lock on woman's private parts, and the woman told her that her husband had fixed it four years ago, after forcing her to eat opium for anaesthetic effect”, Dr Vibha Moses, who examined the woman said to the court.
Though the vicitim had drew back her statement during the trial, the court had taken into account the statement of the doctor and circumstantial evidence and sentence Sohanlal to 10 years jail.
