Harare, July 24: Virat Kohli’s stunning century helped India thrash Zimbabwe by six wickets in the first match of 5-match series in Zimbabwe. Chasing a modest total of 228, Indian captain pounced Zimbabwe bowlers and got past the target with 31 balls to spare giving India a 1-0 lead. Kohli was declared man of the match.
Kohli recorded his 15th ODI century which helped team win India after the cheap dismissals of openers; his outstanding 115 runs from 108 balls include 13 boundaries and a six. Ambati Rayudu made his ODI debut an impressive one by scoring 63 runs from 83 balls. Rayudu, along with the skipper, set a partnership of 159 runs in the third wicket leading the team to victory.
Earlier, Zimbabwe managed to score 227 runs for seven; Sikandar Raza was the top scorer who made 82 runs while 43 runs came from Elton Chigumbura. Indian bowlers bowled well; leg-spinner Amit Mishra made a stunning return to ODIs by taking three wickets for 43 runs.
The next match will be played at the same venue on July 26.
