Saina advances to quarterfinals in All England Open Badminton Championship

 Birmingham: Indian ace and world no 3 shuttler Saina Nehwal advanced to quarterfinals of the All England Open Badminton Championship. Saina thrashed Indonesian competitor Belaetrix Manuputi in straight games here in National Indoor Arena on Thursday. She thrashed Belaetrix Manuputi by 21-16, 21-11 in the pre-quarterfinal match.

Meanwhile, rising Indian shuttler PV Sindhu was smashed out of the tournament. World no 16 Sindhu lost to worlds 4th seed Juliane Schenk of Germany. Sindhu suffered a 17-21, 14-21 loss to Juliane Schenk in 39 minutes. The mixed doubles pair also disappointed, Jwala Gutta and V. Diju  lost their second round matches. The pair lost 17-21, 14-21 to the Polish pair of Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba.
P. Kashyap, top Indian male shultter made his way to the pre–quarterfinals of singles event. He thrashed Chinese Taipei Jen Hao Hsu in straight games (21-17, 21-18).
