Gautham Gambhir to play county cricket

Top order batsman Gautham Gambir, who was dropped from the Indian side due to poor form, will fly to England to play for Essex. The BCCI granted permission for the left hand batsman to play with the first division county for the remaining season.

The India opener, who is looking to make a comeback to the squad, will replace New Zealand opener Hamish Rutherford at Essex. Gambhir's return to the squad looks nearer as Rohit Sharma has been continuously failing in the top order.

Meanwhile, Gambhir could make himself busy during the season where there is no domestic cricket being played. National selectors would be keeping an eye on Gambhir's performance at Essex with India set to play a stronger South African side in the coming season.
