Aakash 4 to be launched in Jan 2014

The next generation low cost Aakash tablet specification has been finalized by the government; the Aakash 4 will be available from January 2014, Telecom and IT Minister Kapil Sibal confirmed today.

"Yesterday we had meeting on the Aakash. The generation 4 Aakash is ready, all the specifications are frozen," Sibal said. He also said that there are around 12 manufacturers from around the world who are ready to build Aakash 4.

According to sources, the next generation Aakash will have 4 GB internal storage and be capable of making phone calls. Aakash 4 will also sport 4G and Bluetooth connectivity. The previous version of Aakash tablet costs INR 2,276.

"There is no problem in terms of manufacture. In fact lines are ready for manufacture, what they need is orders. Now that specifications are frozen, we hope that the Aakash will be available to the people of India by January 2014," Sibal added.
