Green tea is one of the healthiest drink to be consumed and has various benefits like improved brain function, reduction in excess fat, protect against cancer and lower heart diseases. However there are many more health benefits of this beverage.

The seven main benefits of green tea are as follows

Enhances Brain function: Green Tea helps in boosting the brain function with an ingredient called caffeine, a stimulant that blocks neurotransmitter called adenosine. This helps in burning away neurons and increases the concentration of dopamine and norepinephrine. Caffeine improves brain function in terms of mood, vigilance, reaction and memory.

Burns excess calorie: Green tea helps in burning the fat and boost metabolic rate. However not all study support this.

Excellent source of antioxidant: Studies have proved that green tea reduces the risk of having cancer. Cancer is usually caused due to uncontrolled growth of cells, which might lead to death too. Oxidative stress leads to chronic inflammation that causes cancer. Researches have proved that the components in tea can reduce cancer.

Breast Cancer: Studies have proved that women who drank most green tea have shown lower risk of breast cancer compared to others.

Prostate Cancer: Researches have proven that men who consume green tea have lesser chances of getting prostate cancer.

Colorectal Cancer:  primarily affects the colon and rectum. Consuming green tea helps in fighting this cancer.

However more quality studies must be done to support the observation. Some studies suggest avoiding milk in the tea dilutes the antioxidant level in some teas. So it is important to have tea without milk to have the best result.

Protects from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease:  Green Tea helps brain from ageing and protects from brain ageing diseases. Alzheimer’s disease is quite common in older adults that cause dementia, whereas Parkinson’s disease is a disease that kills dopamine producing neurons. The catechin compounds have various effects on neurons, thereby lowering the risk of dementia.

Prevents Type 2 Diabetes: Type2 diabetes involves elevated blood sugar levels, that may be caused due to the inability to produce insulin. Studies have proved that people who drank most tea have lower risk of type2 diabetes.

Prevents cardiovascular disease:  Heart attack and stroke are common diseases causing death. Studies have shown that tea helps in lowering total cholesterol especially LDL (bad cholesterol) that is instrumental in heart diseases.

Helps in reducing excess weight: Several studies have proven that green tea helps in shedding away excess fat especially in the abdominal area.

These are some of the key benefits of green tea. To sum it all, green tea has various positive impacts in your body in terms of weight reduction, preventing cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
