Sufiyum Sujathayum: A background
Sufiyum Sujathayum is a Malayalam based movie released on 3rd July 2020 on the OTT platform. This is the first movie to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video because of the COVID 19 pandemic situation. The movie is directed by Narainpuzha Shanavas and produced by Vijay Babu under his banner, Friday Film House. The film stars Jayasurya as Rajeev, Aditi Rao Hydari as Sujata and Dev Mohan as Sufi in lead roles. The supporting roles are played by Siddique as Sujata’s father, Hareesh Karnan, Mamukoya, Manikandan Pattambi, Valsala Menon.The music is by M Jayachandran and the lyrics is done by BK Harinarayanan and have given some hit songs.
Sufiyum Sujathayum: About of Movie
Sujatha (Adithi Rao Hydari) is a dumb and voiceless and is the only daughter of Mallikarjunan (Siddique)and Kamala (Kalarenjini). She is a talented kathak dancer in the village. One day she boards a bus to her village where she meets Sufi (Dev Mohan) , a Mawlaiyya and a scholar who returns after an expedition to meet his Ustad. There he loses his misbah, which Sujatha returns to him. He gifts the misbah given by his mother to Sujatha, soon after which the two fall in love with each other. The couple decide to run away secretly but her father gets her married off to an NRI named Rajeev (Jayasurya) in Dubai. Even after 10 years she feels she left her past love back.
After ten years Sufi returns to the village and discovers Ustad is no more. He visits Ustad’s grave at the mosque cemetery. Imam (Mamukoya) finds him at the grave and invites him inside. Sufi calls for a gathering for a prayer meet but unfortunately passes away during the prayer. Sujatha was devastated beyond words when gets call of his death. Her husband, Rajeev decides to bring her back to village for the last burial. They could reach for the funeral only after the body was in the process of burial. Rajeev pays the last visit at the grave as females were not allowed inside.
In the evening Rajeev realises that he has lost his passport after searching everywhere. He concludes the passport would have fallen in the grave. Rajeev alongwith Mallikarjun (his father in law) decide to unearth the grave but I vain when they did not find the passport. Meanwhile Sujatha arrives there with the passport which she had hidden to dispose the misbah Sufi gave her.
Sufiyum Sujathayum: Performance of the actors
The movie is love jihad story of a girl named Sujatha who blindly falls for a whirling dervish, Sufi despite their religious differences. The characters are played very well by both the actors and the love story of Sujatha and Sufi is very well depicted by these two. It is a unique story of love, heartbreaks and community disparities and how life changes for Sujatha. The supporting roles too have been played very well by all the actors.
The rating of the movie has been quite average but the feedback given to it has been quite good. Some have felt the movie however is slow but has some uniqueness in terms of a conventional love story of two community people. The movie is a good watch.
