As the monsoons begin we hear a lot of complains of common cold and fever. Common cold is a disease that affects the respiratory system of a human being mainly the nose and throat. People suffering from cold complain primarily of running nose, throat infection, sneezing or a nose block. However this is quite common among adults and children and gets cured by itself with few home remedies or by taking pills if severe. These last for two weeks or so, but can get severe if it remains and should be consulted by a doctor.
Common Cold: Remedies For Adults
We are here to discuss home remedies for common cold. These remedies can be easily made with some common ingredients that are available at home.
Chukku Kaapi or Dry Ginger Coffee : This is quite common hack used by most people for a relief from throat infection. Dry Ginger coffee comes in readymade packets or can be made simply by adding dry ginger to coffee and boil well. It is quite easy to make it and the ingredients are readily available in the market.
Basil leaves : Another remedy that proves quite effective by adding few basil leaves and peppercorns to a vessel of water and boil well. This hack proves quite efficient and gives instant relief to sore throat. This syrup should be taken two or three times a day.
Salt water gargle : his is a very common remedy for throat irritation and pain. Boil water in a vessel and add 1 teaspoon of salt in it and gargle. This has to be done 3 to 4 times a day, this remedy is highly recommended by even doctors.
Vicks : We can apply vicks in the infected areas like neck, nose or chest. Rub it properly before sleep and cover the head, neck and chest with warm clothes. This might not be completely fight cold but can give relief to some extent.
Steaming : Add vicks to a vessel of hot water and inhale by covering your head with a warm cloth this process is called steaming. Do this 3 to 4 times a day for gradual relief from nose blocks.
Turmeric Milk: is also an amazing antioxidant for sore throat relief. Taking turmeric milk three to four times a day gives relief to sore throat. Donot forget to have turmeric milk before going to bed.
Rasam : is made from indian spices like peppercorns, tamarind, dried red chillies and cumin helps in throat irritation to an extent. Rasam powders are also available in the market.
This monsoon it is important that we keep ourselves safe from viral infections, cough and cold by taking maximum precautions. As the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure”, it is better to be proactive and keep ourselves away prepared to prevent the disease.
